Understanding the Mimi AVARO Infant Car Seat

Posted by Angie Hough on

The Mimi AVARO infant car seat is the vehicle-travel component used in selected Mimi LUNO travel system setups.

AVARO is approved under UN R129 / i-Size for rearward-facing infant vehicle travel from 40 to 87 cm and up to 13 kg. It can also attach to the LUNO stroller frame for short compatible car-to-stroller transitions when used with the correct car seat adapters.

Watch Mimi LUNO setup and everyday use tutorials.

Quick Answer

  • Approved use range: 40 to 87 cm and up to 13 kg
  • Direction: rearward-facing infant vehicle travel
  • Installation: used with the compatible AVARO ISOFIX base
  • Harness: integrated harness system
  • Stroller compatibility: compatible with the LUNO stroller frame when used with the correct car seat adapters
  • Travel-system role: vehicle travel and short compatible car-to-stroller transitions

AVARO is a child restraint for vehicle travel. It should not be treated as a carrycot or used as a replacement for lie-flat newborn stroller outings.

What AVARO Is Used For

AVARO is the Mimi Baby infant car seat used for rearward-facing vehicle travel.

It is used for:

  • Rearward-facing infant vehicle travel
  • Use with the compatible AVARO ISOFIX base
  • Short AVARO-to-LUNO stroller transitions when used with the correct adapters

AVARO is not the stroller seat and it is not the carrycot. Each LUNO component has a different role.

AVARO Safety Standard and Use Range

AVARO is approved under UN R129 / i-Size for rearward-facing infant vehicle travel from 40 to 87 cm and up to 13 kg.

This means parents should check:

  • That the baby is within the approved height range
  • That the baby is within the approved weight limit
  • That the seat is installed correctly before every journey
  • That the harness is correctly positioned and tightened
  • That the vehicle seating position is suitable for the base installation

Do not use AVARO once your baby has outgrown the approved height or weight range, or no longer fits correctly according to the product manual.

Rearward-Facing Vehicle Travel

AVARO is used rearward-facing for infant vehicle travel.

Rearward-facing use means:

  • The car seat faces the back of the vehicle
  • The seat is used according to the AVARO manual
  • The harness must be correctly adjusted around the baby
  • The seat must be correctly locked onto the ISOFIX base before driving

Do not use AVARO forward-facing.

Using AVARO With the ISOFIX Base

AVARO is used with the compatible AVARO ISOFIX base.

Before driving, check:

  • That the ISOFIX connectors are locked into the vehicle anchor points
  • That the support leg is correctly positioned on the vehicle floor
  • That the visual indicators show correct installation where applicable
  • That AVARO is fully locked onto the base
  • That nothing interferes with the base or support leg

ISOFIX may help reduce some installation errors when used correctly, but it does not make a car seat automatically safe. Correct installation, vehicle compatibility and the product manual still matter.

For installation guidance, read How to Install the AVARO ISOFIX Base.

Using AVARO on the LUNO Stroller Frame

AVARO can attach to the LUNO stroller frame when used with the correct car seat adapters.

This may be useful for:

  • Short car-to-stroller transitions
  • Moving from vehicle to appointment or shop entrance
  • Brief everyday transfers where waking or moving the baby out of the seat is not practical

Car seat adapters are included in the LUNO 3-in-1 and LUNO Complete 4-in-1 setups. They are not included in the LUNO 2-in-1.

AVARO-on-stroller use is for short compatible transitions. For longer newborn outings outside the vehicle, the LUNO carrycot is the lie-flat option where included.

For stroller attachment guidance, read How to Attach AVARO to the Mimi LUNO Stroller.

Newborn Insert

The newborn insert provides additional support for smaller babies during the early stage of use.

  • Use the insert according to the AVARO manual.
  • Do not add unapproved inserts, padding or accessories.
  • Remove or adjust the insert only when instructed by the manual and when your baby’s fit requires it.

The insert should support correct positioning without making the harness loose or changing the way the seat is designed to fit the baby.

Harness and Headrest Adjustment

The AVARO harness and headrest should be adjusted according to your baby’s size and the product manual.

Check:

  • That the baby’s back and bottom are positioned correctly in the seat
  • That the harness sits correctly over the shoulders
  • That the harness is snug and not twisted
  • That the headrest position supports the baby correctly
  • That the baby still fits within the approved height and weight range

Always check the harness before every journey. A correctly installed car seat still needs the baby to be secured correctly inside the seat.

Mimi SideProtect System

The Mimi SideProtect System is part of the AVARO infant car seat design.

Where instructed, position the SideProtect System on the side of the car seat closest to the vehicle door.

  • Check which side of the car seat is closest to the vehicle door
  • Position or extend the SideProtect System as instructed
  • Make sure it is correctly engaged before use
  • If the seat is installed in a centre seating position, follow the manual for correct SideProtect positioning

Do not force any side-impact component into a position that does not fit the vehicle seating area. Follow the AVARO manual for the correct setup.
